Really lovely venue. The afternoon tea was wonderful and plenty of it. Attentive staff without being over attentive. Would highly recommend especially if you want to go somewhere nice for a celebration.
I had an amazing stay, the room was luxurious, classy and modern at the same time. The food was great and staff lovely, I would have stayed longer if I could 😊👌

Great hotel in Central location. The building has a lot of character in the oldest sections. Friendly reception staff, bedroom was clean and tidy and no noticeable noise disturbance at night regardless of the fact The George is located alongside late night Colchester nightlife. Car park behind hotel, you do have to pay but it won't break the bank and parking options are otherwise limited. Stayed here several times now and would always come back.
The George is directly in the heart of the town, the location is fantastic. Do search around for alternatives to the parking at the hotel as there are better value places near-by. The Inn is beautiful. Very uneven floors, low ceilings and many original features. Great bar, fantastic food and friendly staff. The room was tastefully decorated, clean but tired. The carpet has seen better days as had most of the soft furnishings. The bed was very comfy and there was plenty of very hot water on tap in the en-suite. All in all a very pleasant stay!

Very nice hotel with good food. The annex rooms look like they have air con installed. The grills etc. are there but it’s not. Good maintenance just a couple of niggles but it was excellent otherwise.
Lovely overnight stay in a very quaint hotel. A lovely 14th century building bringing the quirky character of squeaky floorboards, low ceilings and wonderful charm. A lovely team of staff who were always wanting to make your stay special and lovely food served at dinner and breakfast. It is nice to find a hotel breakfast which is cooked to order with really good ingredients and table served We had a Superior room boasting a very comfortable 6 foot bed and upgraded bathroom with a lovely waterfall shower ( although being 6 foot meant I couldn't stand under it due to the low ceiling ) with very nice complimentary products. Only a 10 minute walk into town which meansvyou sre not far from a lot of touristy things to do.

Usually visit The Grapes in conjunction with quiz nights; especially Quiz & Curry night on the second Thursday of each month. Good food, good drinks & good atmosphere

Since the recent management change and revamp, this pub has changed for the better! It's now slowly attracting a trendier crowd and the drinks selection has massively improved. This is now my number one drinking hole for me and my pals. You can still order food here and dogs are also welcome. Outdoor seating means you can grab a cheeky pint or two on a warm summer's day.
New owners and a big change of style. The TVs and the scruffy furniture have gone to be replaced with a bright clean easy Listening style place. Great traditional beer and a good selection of lagers, ciders, wines and bottled alcohol. New menu that looks good but I am yet to try. Not the cheapest place but it has a good and safe feeling. Lots of woman and family groups using it as their local. I would defiantly give it a try.

We had a lovely time in that lovely place, Anne is the most amazing host I haven't seen, her details made our stay extremely comfortable
Absolutely wonderful, older Georgian house, so no ensuite. But who cares? It's fun running into people on the landing. You can cook your own breakfast in the lovely kitchen then take coffee into the garden. Anne is a lovely hostess too.

Fantastic guest house. The owner is lovely and the property has been decorated to a high standard. The breakfast was excellent with big portions!! The photos on Google don’t do it justice. Highly recommended.
Breakfast tasted and was very filling, the room I stayed in was very generous in its size and the people managing the establishment were a pleasure to meet and talk to

Ì chose the Globe because I was looking for inexpensive accommodation in Colchester. Ì thought £50 per night very reasonable. (OK, add VAT to that, but it is still reasonable for bed and breakfast in a hotel within walking distance of the city centre.) No extra charge for guest parking. Ì was very pleased to find a large room (room 12) with en suite shower room, kitchenette, ample furniture and a very comfortable double bed. The stairs, hallway and breakfast room are stylishly decorated. The breakfasts were excellent. The choice of foods could not have been wider: fruit, cereals, juices, bread (DIY toast) and plenty of cooked items. If you need food later in the day North Station Street is crammed with takeaways and restaurants. Ì can also recommend the Blackshore Stout at the Victoria Inn. If I ever go to Colchester again Ì shall certainly try to stay at the Globe again. Any negatives? Well the lift does not work but they warn you about that in the booking document. Brilliant hotel!
The reception was in another building, they requested payment on arrival, did not offer help carrying luggage. Unusually no info folder in the room, we guessed breakfast times! Fire escape information was very prominent ,timer switch lighting on landings and stairs was harder to spot in some areas. We were in room 9 ,this was on the second floor. The lift was out of order for our whole stay, public areas were spotless. Entry was via plastic access card very big room two single beds, Duvets Unusually all the bedroom lights were on or off no side lights on separate switch there was no seperate alarm clock and there was a bulb out on lights next the door, likewise the shaver light was also not working. Evidence of some cracking plaster behind the hooks, the shower and toilet were compact. Wardrobe and cupboards modern and capacious. The tea, coffee and toiletries were plentiful and the towels were changed daily, the room was spotless and despite looking out on the main road was surprisingly noise free. WiFi reliable for my Smartphone The breakfast was generous, cereal, continental plus crumpets, toast, etc this was self service... Coffee machine -Best ever or instant cooked was done to order, Fried Egg was runny FAB normally it can be yuck in hotels,Baked beans slightly cold one morning . We took a room and breakfast deal ,tough regulations on food and visitors in your room and they tell you they want the money on arrival Staff very friendly and welcoming, quickly learning our wishes, views at breakfast were students and children hurrying to their classes
If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!

Just got back from a long weekend away at this site. Will definitely be going back very friendly helpful staff. Very tidy and clean and nice size pitches so children had plenty of room to play. Great spot near centre and zoo.
Great site with friendly staff, good clean toilets and excellent, level hard standings. Other campers seemed very friendly too. Quite a bit of noise from the adjacent main road but we soon got used to that. Two mile walk to the castle or a slightly longer one along the river. Good bus service into town too. If you want to visit Colchester, this site is perfect.
